The first InstaMeet of this year happened last Saturday, thanks to @thisaintartschool in collaboration with @coberlin.

The Instagramers had the opportunity of a guided tour through the Kreuzberg – Amerika exhibition, a chance to refresh memory with famous shots of the american Diane Arbus, Robert Adams, William Eggleston, and the lesser known german Ulrich Wüst, Hildegard Ochse and many others, engaged in the transatlantic change of ideas that followed the Workshop for Photography started by Michael Schmidt in 1976.

A carefully curated series of black and white urban imagery, landscapes, a focus on geometry, mixed with photos in vivid colours, a different portraiture and a perpetual switch of perspective.

After the exhibition, the photographers regrouped for a walk in Wedding, looking at the buildings that Schmidt looked at in the ’70s, photographing a similar content in their very own ways. Now, in the era of Instagram, the results and the dialog feel just as stimulating as back in the time.

Rethinking landscapes, nature within the city and portraits, there is a new Instagram challenge running until the end of January with the hashtag #werkstattphotographie and you can win the beautiful catalogue of the exhibition.
